Ferrer survives in five, Djokovic next World No. 5 David Ferrer is through to the last four at the Australian Open after rallying from a two-sets-to-love hole against world No. 11 Nicolas Almagro. The veteran will take on world No. 1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the final.

Fourth seed David Ferrer advanced to the semifinal following an extended battle with compatriot Nicolas Almagro. The 30-year-old trailed by two sets and a break before rallying to seal the victory, 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-2.

Almagro served for the match at 5-4 in the third set and at 5-4 and 6-5 in set four but was unable to close. After leveling the match at a set apiece, Ferrer broke at 2-2 and 4-2 in the final set.

"I tried to fight every point, every game," Ferrer explained. "I know all players in important moments are nervous. I try to do my best. Today I was close to losing. But finally I came back. I always try to do my best, to fight a lot. If I am to lose, I would like to lose fighting. I never give up."

"I'm (disappointed) with the tiebreak, but I need to work more to be ready to play with the top players," said Almagro, who looked to be struggling physically late in the match. "Today was a big opportunity for me. I'm going to work to be ready for the next (opportunity)."

Ferrer completed the quarterfinal with eight service breaks, 16 winners and 44 winners.

Up next for the Spaniard is two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic, who took out 5th seed Tomas Berdych in four sets.
