World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is into his 11th straight Slam semifinal, this time with a win over familiar foe Tomas Berdych.
This match could easily have been a straight-set victory for Novak Djokovic, but he advanced with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 scoreline instead.
The first set was a complete blowout, with the normally aggressive Berdych reduced to scrambling around the baseline trying to retrieve the Serb's groundstrokes. Djokovic drew first blood at 1-1 and secured an insurance break for 4-1 before closing out the set with a decisive third break.
Berdych attempted to make of match of it in the second set. The Czech came out swinging and was rewarded with an immediate service break, his first of the match. The rest of the set was an all-out struggle for the No. 5 seed to try to hold onto the break lead. Djokovic held comfortably in most of his remaining service games, Berdych struggled, even facing a pair of break points at 15-40 when he was attempting to serve out the set. He managed to hold on, but it would be the one bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance for the Czech.
Djokovic went back to business in the third. He completely dismantled Berdych to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The No. 5 seed was saved from a third set bagel by a shaky hold for 5-1, but Djokovic made no mistakes serving to make it two sets to one.
The fourth set was a bit better from Berdych, but he was still outclassed by Djokovic. The Serb secured the break early for a 2-1 lead. Berdych was able to push Djokovic to deuce with Djokovic serving to win the match, but a couple of big serves from Djokovic sealed the win.
Djokovic will take on No. 4 seed David Ferrer in the semifinals.
