Berdych defeats Anderson, sets up Djokovic quarter After withstanding a lengthy third set tiebreaker, Tomas Berdych ousted Kevin Anderson in straight sets to earn a spot opposite Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarterfinals.

After a pair of routine sets to start the match, Tomas Berdych found himself in a dogfight in the third, eventually staving off the big-serving South African Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(13).

Anderson didn't really make an impression on Berdych's game until the third set. The Czech was able to secure breaks of serve at 2-3 in the first set and in Anderson's first service game in the second. Berdych wasn't done making his presence known on Anderson's serve however, and snagged an insurance break to take a commanding two sets to none lead.

The third set featured the best tennis of the match, with both men holding serve to send the third to a tiebreaker. Anderson got in a hole almost right away, trailing Berdych 5-2. But the South African suddenly found his serve and reeled off a trio of aces to get to 5-6. On his first match point, Berdych missed on a wild error and he missed another three before finally converting for a 15-13 victory.

Berdych will now move into a blockbuster quarterfinal against rival Novak Djokovic.
