    Simon survives, Del Potro falls to Chardy Fourteenth seed Gilles Simon passed into the fourth round after outlasting fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils in five sets. He is joined in the round of 16 by compatriot Jeremy Chardy, who held on to upset 6th seed Juan Martin Del Potro.

    Fourteenth seed Gilles Simon is through to the round of 16 after holding on to upend former world No. 7 Gael Monfils. The 28-year-old collected 45 winners through four hours and 43 minutes of play. Simon missed a chance to close late in the decider, but recovered to seal the win serving 7-6. He completed the match with eight of 25 break points converted.

    Simon will take on world No. 3 Andy Murray for a place in the quarterfinals. The Scot defeated Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis in round three, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

    France's Jeremy Chardy made the round of 16 by virtue of his five-set victory over world No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro. The Frenchman tallied 78 winners through three hours and 45 minutes. Del Potro held break point late in the final set but was unable to convert. Chardy broke to 5-3 on a well-timed forehand winner.

    "It's not a good result after coming back from two sets down," Del Potro said. "But Jeremy played really well in the fifth set. He deserved to win the match. He broke my serve. He was so calm to close the match in the end. The tournament for me is over now. I have to work hard because the season just started. I believe in my game, myself. I will work very, very hard for the future."

I can't believe Chardy won,thought he was done when Del Potro won the 3rd set.

chardy was superb in the first 2 sets. great attacking tennis on display.
