  • Federer rolls over Davydenko, to face Tomic

    1/17/13 6:06 PM | Ricky Dimon
Federer rolls over Davydenko, to face Tomic Roger Federer makes quick work of Nikolay Davydenko on Thursday in Melbourne. Federer will go up against Bernard Tomic during third-round action this weekend.

Roger Federer made a mockery of what was a highly-anticipated Australian Open meeting with Nikolay Davydenko on Thursday night at the Australian Open. Federer cruised 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 59 minutes to set up a third-round showdown against Bernard Tomic.

The two veterans came out firing groundstrokes in intriguing baseline rallies. That made for some early suspense, which heightened when Federer survived multiple deuces at 2-2. In the sixth game, however, the 17-time Grand Slam champion seized the match's first break and it was never competitive thereafter.

Federer's break in the second set came 1-1, courtesy of a blistering forehand winner. The final frame of play progressed in similar fashion, with Melbourne's No. 2 seed breaking right away and holding onto it easily the rest of the way. Federer, who struck nine aces, did not face a single break point the entire match.

The Swiss is 3-0 lifetime against Tomic, who survived Daniel Brands in four tight sets.

"I guess he's learned a lot in the last year," Federer said of the 20-year-old Australian. "It's nice he's been able to turn it around after a tough end of the year last year. It seems he's playing well. It’s obviously a difficult matchup in terms of being early in the tournament. But I've got to be ready, so I'm looking forward to the match."

Well, those were two tough matches for Fed... and now Tomic!
Will he win 6 or 7 games in whole match, that's the question.
It will be easy day... like it was be4 and that is because of Fed quality. I am not trying to say that Fed is going deep just because his opponents are weak... I am just
saying that all story about "TOUGH DRAW" was just another PR stunt.
Just like everything in connection with FED.

^^I agree, even Andy who has the `toughest`draw of the 3 (as usual) has ploughed through some waklings so far.
Still you have to admit that Novak has got it the easiest Zare, although this will just be luck.
Not `fed` luck ;)

Not just about the draw, though is it?
Let's talk about the scheduling....:(

Comfy cool night matches in 2nd and 3rd rounds for Feddy.

All hot blistering sun day matches for poor Muzzard.

Expect this trend to continue. Feddy likes his meat well done.

Things could have been lot easy in scheduling had Tomic been in other half.
