World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to the third round after taking out Germany's Benjamin Becker in straight sets. The 24-year-old Argentine collected 22 aces and 50 winners through 104 minutes of play.

“I'm very confident with my serve, with my size, with my movement,” Del Potro said. “I think all the taller players are very dangerous on this kind of surface.

“I like to make winners from the baseline. I'm working on my volley, but I'm confident playing on the baseline with forehands and backhands. But I know the way to beat the top guys is going to the net all the time.”

Del Potro moves on to face France's Jeremy Chardy in the next round. Chardy dismissed 30th seed Marcel Granollers in round two, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

    (12) Marin Cilic def. (Q) Rajeev Ram 7-5, 6-2, 6-4

Twelfth seed Marin Cilic moved into the round of 32 following his straight-sets ousting of American qualifier Rajeev Ram. The former Australian Open semifinalist held 100% of his service games without facing a break point. Cilic ended the two-hour match with nine aces, 45 winners and four service breaks.

He will take on 21st seed Andreas Seppi for a place in the round of 16. The Italian survived an extended second-round match with Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin in five sets, 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-2.
