Tomic takes out Seppi, into first ATP final Bernard Tomic is through to his first career ATP title match after ousting No. 3 seed Andreas Seppi on Friday in Sydney. Tomic will battle Kevin Anderson for the championship.

Bernard Tomic has always talked the talk. Now he's backing it up with results that he--and many others--predicted.

Tomic defeated Andreas Seppi 7-6(10), 6-4 in the semifinals of the Apia International on Friday afternoon. The 20-year-old fired eight aces without double-faulting and he saved all six of the break points he faced to advance in one hour and 24 minutes.

Showing a mental fortitude and a fighting spirit rarely seen from Topic in previous years, the crowd favorite battled through a brutal first set in which he took several medical timeouts for heat-related problems. Tomic earned no break points but saved five at 5-5 to eventually force a tiebreaker. Both players raised their levels even higher during a dramatic 'breaker, which Tomic finally won 12 points to 10.

Seppi served incredibly well in the opener (seven aces, 77 percent of first serves, 30 of 34 first-serve points won) and more of the same continued in set two. The third-seeded Italian held easily en route to 4-4, but Tomic hit a net-cord winner on his only break point of the match. Having apparently adapted to the conditions, the world No. 64 had no trouble on serve throughout the second and he closed out the proceedings with one more routine hold.

"It's an amazing feeling," Tomic said of booking a spot in his first career ATP title match. "It's about time. Obviously I played pretty good today."

He will battle Kevin Anderson in Saturday's final. Anderson, 0-1 lifetime against Tomic at the ATP level (1-1 overall), is 2-1 in ATP finals.
