    1/4/13 5:24 AM | Ricky Dimon
Ferrer, Davydenko set up Doha semifinal David Ferrer eases past Paolo Lorenzi in straight sets on Thursday in Doha. Ferrer is joined in the semifinals by Nikolay Davydenko, who rolled over Simone Bolelli.

    (1) David Ferrer d. Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-0

Ferrer is picking up in 2013 right where he left off 2012, as he booked a semifinal spot at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open by cruising past Lorenzi in one hour and two minutes on Thursday. Playing in his second career ATP quarterfinal, Lorenzi at least managed to be competitive in the first set. The 64th-ranked Italian donated serve only once, but he could not gain any traction from the baseline in order to get the break back.

From there it was all Ferrer, who dropped a mere three service points in set two. Doha's No. 1 seed struck an awesome 28 winners to just 11 errors, hardly giving his opponent any chance. Ferrer, who compiled a 76-15 record last season, will go up against Nikolay Davydenko on Friday.

    Nikolay Davydenko d. Simone Bolelli 6-1, 6-1

Davydenko looked like the Davydenko of old during quarterfinal action. The 31-year-old Russian fired 14 winners compared to only 11 errors and his quick movement around the court prevented Bolelli from recording more than three winners of his own. All of that resulted in a lightning-fast, 49-minute victory for Davydenko.

Bolelli mustered just two games and he won a shocking 25 percent of the points even when he put his first serve in play. The 84th-ranked Italian did well to reach the last eight, but he simply had no answer for an opponent who is showing signs of turning back the clock.
