    Nishikori, Nieminen win Brisbane openers Fifth seed Kei Nishikori is through to the second round at the Brisbane International after taking out Australia's Marinko Matosevic in straight sets. He is joined by Jarkko Nieminen, who defeated fellow veteran Julien Benneteau.

    Fifth seed Kei Nishikori recorded his 100th ATP World Tour victory on Monday, upending Australia's Marinko Matosevic in straight sets. The 23-year-old converted four of 5 break points en route to a 7-5, 6-2 win in an hour and 42 minutes.

    Nishikori will take on former world No. 5 Tommy Robredo or qualifier Ryan Harrison in the next round.

    Jarkko Nieminen def Julien Benneteau 6-3, 2-6, 6-1

    Former finalist Jarkko Nieminen improved to 6-0 lifetime against fellow veteran Julien Benneteau on Monday. The 31-year-old Finn saved five of 6 break points through to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 victory in an hour and 44 minutes. Nieminen completed the first-round effort with four aces.

    He is slated to meet fourth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov in round two.
