Former ATP supremo Mark Miles has been appointed to run the company which owns the American IndyCar racing series seven years after leaving tennis following his 15-year span at the top of the men's game.
Miles, based in Indianapolis, will become CEO of Hulman & Co, which also runs the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and the sport’s media and technology partner IMS Productions.
Miles, who spearheaded the city's 2011 hosting of the American football Super Bowl, has vast organizational experience, also organizing the staging of the 1987 Pan American Games.
Miles comes on board a troubled motor racing empire, which may soon find itself challenged by the most sophisticated and technologically advanced series on the planet, Formula 1, which staged a massively successful debut race last weekend in Austin, Texas.
"I'm excited about joining the team and contributing my lifetime learning from international professional sports, large-scale major sports events and business environments," said Miles. "I have worked for companies with global profiles and brands, and I'm happy to continue that on behalf of the Hulman-George (IMS) family and its significant business interests."
