• Federer, Del Potro in manageable Word Tour Finals group

Federer, Del Potro in manageable Word Tour Finals group Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro headline Group B this week in London. They are joined in the softest of the two pods by Paris quarterfinalist Janko Tipsarevic and Paris champion David Ferrer.

Two-time defending champion Roger Federer is back at the World Tour Finals, and the draw certainly didn't do anything to dent his hopes of making it three in a row. Federer finds himself in Group B along with David Ferrer, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Janko Tipsarevic.

The world No. 2 is a whopping 31-3 lifetime against those three opponents; 13-0 vs. Ferrer, 13-3 vs. Del Potro, and 5-0 vs. Tipsarevic. However, it won't necessarily be a walk in the park for Federer. Del Potro just beat him on Swiss ground (in the Basel final) and Ferrer is coming off the first Masters 1000 title of his career in Paris.

Of course, all three challengers come with question marks--and they are unquestionably weaker than Novak Djokovic's adversaries in Group A (Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga). Del Potro has played a ton of tennis this fall and has to be fatigued. Ferrer will have had only one day off when he takes the court on Tuesday against the Argentine. Tipsarevic has not been in great form and he retired to Jerzy Janowicz in the Paris quarterfinals.

In 10 career appearances at the year-end championship, Federer boasts an incredible 39-7 match record with six titles. Ferrer has advanced out of group stage twice in three attempts, including a runner-up result (lost to Federer) in 2007. Del Potro is 4-4 in two showings with a runner-up finish to Nikolay Davydenko in 2009. Tipsarevic's only previous effort came as an alternate last year (just as he is in 2012), when he compiled a 1-1 record in round-robin action.
