France’s Julien Benneteau made a successful start to his Paris campaign, having ousted Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in straight sets. The veteran is joined in round two by Carlos Berlocq, who defeated Denis Istomin early Monday.

World No. 37 Julien Benneteau advanced to the second round following his straight-sets upending of Serbia’s Viktor Troicki. The 30-year-old converted four of seven break points through an hour and 24 minutes of play. Troicki struggled with his second serve, winning just eight of 21 points.
Benneteau will take on 6th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a place in the round of 16.
Carlos Berlocq def. Denis Istomin 7-6(2), 6-2
World No. 54 Carlos Berlocq is through to the second round after downing Denis Istomin in straight sets. The veteran Argentine tallied six aces and three service breaks en route to a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory in two hours and three minutes. Berlocq completed the first-round effort with seven of eight break points saved.
He is scheduled to take on 16th seed Stanislas Wawrinka in the next round.
