Paire advances in Paris, Seppi outlasts Klizan Benoit Paire cruises past Pablo Andujar in straight sets on Monday in Paris. Paire is joined in the second round by Andreas Seppi, who beat Martin Klizan in a third-set tiebreaker.

(WC) Benoit Paire d. Pablo Andujar 6-3, 6-4

Paire won his BNP Paribas Masters opener on Monday night, defeating Andujar in one hour and 26 minutes. The match progressed as most could have expected, complete with unforced errors and service breaks left and right. Paire gave back a break early in the first set but added another break at 4-3 before serving it out one game later.

The Frenchman seemed to be in complete control when he raced to a 3-0 lead in the second. However, as Paire is prone to do he went on a mental walkabout at 5-2 and let Andujar easily recover one of the breaks. With the match on his racket a second time, though, the world No. 44 got the job done at 5-4. Next up for Paire is 15th-seeded Kei Nishikori.

    Andreas Seppi d. Martin Klizan 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5)

Seppi made several great escapes in the final set to survive Klizan in one hour and 49 minutes on Monday afternoon in Paris. The Italian got off to a fast start by saving both of the break points he faced in the opening set. Klizan fought back in the second by completely dominating his opponent's serve, earning three breaks--including one at 5-2 to force a decider in style.

That set the stage for a dramatic third, in which Klizan tightened up at the finish line several times. The 29th-ranked Slovak failed to serve out the match at 5-3, but he briefly recovered to seize a 5-2 lead in the ensuing tiebreaker. Two points from victory and serving, Klizan simply could not close the deal. Seppi won five consecutive points to steal the match, including return points at 2-5, 3-5, and 6-5. The world No. 22 will go up against Tomas Berdych in the second round.
