Ferrer tops tricky quarter in Paris World No. 5 David Ferrer is back on court to headline a competitive quarter of the draw at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris. With the absence of compatriot Rafael Nadal, the veteran heads into the tournament seeded fourth.

World No. 5 David Ferrer makes his return to competition after sealing a title-winning run in Valencia. The 30-year-old veteran enters into the BNP Paribas Masters with a 67-14 season record.

Ferrer is three times a quarterfinalist at the Masters 1000 Paris, having advanced to the final eight in 2005, 2007 and 2011.

Ferrer tops a tricky quarter of the draw that includes (6) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, (11) Nicolas Almagro and (16) Stanislas Wawrinka. Additional combatants in the quarter are Viktor Troicki, Julien Benneteau, Albert Ramos, Feliciano Lopez, Denis Istomin and Carlos Berlocq.

The Spaniard looks to a possible round of 16 meeting with Wawrinka and a quarterfinal clash with sixth seed Tsonga. Should Ferrer progress further through the draw, he could face 2009 Paris champion Novak Djokovic for a berth in the final.

Following a first-round bye, Ferrer is slated to begin his run against either former world No. 8 Mikhail Youzhny or fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers.
