Alexandr Dolgopolov will try to dethrone Marcel Granollers as the two men take the court on quarterfinal Friday in Valencia.
Defending Valencia Open champion Marcel Granollers will once again take on Alexandr Dolgopolov at home. The two men met last year on these same courts, with Granollers winning the encounter in routine straight sets.
Granollers is perhaps better known for his doubles prowess. The Spaniard, who pairs up with compatriot Marc Lopez, is part of the 10th-ranked doubles team; he sits at No. 25 in the world in the singles rankings. Granollers hasn't played much since the US Open, losing his only match in Metz at the hands of Ivo Karlovic.
Dolgopolov has had patchy results this fall. The Ukrainian does have a title this year, but that came this summer in Washington, DC. He had a decent third-round result in Shanghai, but otherwise his fall was a bust.
Prediction - Granollers has proven that he plays well in Valencia and he'll have the crowd behind him. The Spaniard in 3.
