• Gasquet reaches Basel quarterfinals, Mayer falls

  Third seed Richard Gasquet made the final eight at the Swiss Indoors Basel, having ousted wildcard Marco Chiudinelli in straight sets. Australia’s Marinko Matosevic is through to round two after defeating 7th seed Florian Mayer.

  World No. 13 Richard Gasquet advanced to the quarterfinal following his straight-sets ousting of Swiss wildcard Marco Chiudinelli. The 26-year-old Frenchman tallied 8 aces and three service breaks en route to a 6-1, 6-4 victory in 66 minutes. Gasquet completed the second-round effort with 28 of 29 first-service points won.
  
  He is slated to take on either 6th seed Mikhail Youzhny or Matthew Ebden in the next round.

  Australia’s Marinko Matosevic is through to the second round after upsetting 7th seed Florian Mayer in straight sets. The 27-year-old converted four of 7 break points through 63 minutes of play. The German struggled with his second serve, winning just eight of 25 points.
  
  Matosevic will face South Africa’s Kevin Anderson for a place in the quarterfinals. Anderson dismissed veteran Jarkko Nieminen in the first round, 7-6(4), 6-3.
