Grigor Dimitrov dismisses Viktor Troicki in straight sets on Tuesday in Basel. Dimitrov is joined in the second round by Thomaz Bellucci, who will go up against Roger Federer.
Grigor Dimitrov d. (8) Viktor Troicki 6-3, 6-2
Dimitrov turned in a brilliant performance to oust Troicki in one hour and 13 minutes during first-round action at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Tuesday evening. The 21-year-old Bulgarian dominated right from the start, winning all 18 of his first-serve points in the opening set and losing a mere five points in five service games.
More of the same continued in the second, with Dimitrov seizing a quick break to take complete control. He consolidated it with a tough hold at 2-1, which included a behind-the-back drop-volley at deuce. Troicki dropped serve one more time before his opponent served out the proceedings at 5-2. Next up for Dimitrov is Julien Benneteau, who advanced past Andrey Kuznetsov on Monday.
Thomaz Bellucci d. Go Soeda 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
Playing two days after finishing runner-up in Moscow, Bellucci recovered from a set and a break down to beat Soeda in two hours and eight minutes late Tuesday night. The Brazilian seized two breaks out of almost nowhere in the second, including at 5-4 to force a third set in style.
With momentum in hand, Bellucci raced to a 5-0 lead in the third. Soeda erased some of the deficit by reeling off three consecutive games, but Bellucci finally sealed the deal on his racket at 5-4. The world No. 34 will go up against top seed and five-time Basel champion Roger Federer on Wednesday.
