Dimitrov beats Benneteau in three tiebreakers Grigor Dimitrov gave back several leads but managed to hold on and defeat Julien Benneteau in a third-set tiebreaker on Wednesday. Benoit Paire also advances by upsetting Andreas Seppi.

    Grigor Dimitrov d. Julien Benneteau 7-6(5), 6-7(1), 7-6(3)

Triple-tiebreak matches have not been a rarity during the ATP's fall season, and another one was played in the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel on Wednesday evening. Dimitrov squandered multiple advantages and a whole host of match points but finally held on to beat Benneteau in two hours and 52 minutes.

The 21-year-old Bulgarian jumped out to a big lead in the first tiebreaker and took it seven points to five. After recovering a break in the second, Benneteau dominated the middle tiebreaker to an even greater extent. The 37th-ranked Frenchman also fought back from a break down in the third and saved one match point on serve at 4-5. Benneteau survived three more match points in the tiebreaker, but a 6-0 deficit was way too much to overcome. Dimitrov awaits either Nikolay Davydenko or Paul-Henri Mathieu in the quarterfinals.

    Benoit Paire d. (5) Andreas Seppi 4-6, 6-2, 6-3

Thomaz Bellucci turned in a solid effort in Basel, but Seppi could not do the same after beating Bellucci for the Moscow title just three days earlier. Seppi started off well enough and took the first set from Paire on Wednesday, but the No. 5 seed ultimately went down after one hour and 31 minutes.

Paire recovered in part thanks to his opponent, who served at a horrendous 32 percent in the second and was broken three times. It was the Frenchman's turn for awful serving in the third (35 percent), but he won the big points. Paire saved both of the break points he faced and converted one of his two chances. Next up for the world No. 46 is second-round meeting with Lukasz Kubot.
