World No. 8 Juan Martin Del Potro is through to the second round at the Swiss Indoors Basel, having ousted Colombia’s Alejandro Falla in straight sets. The second seed moves on to face American Brian Baker for a place in the quarterfinal.
Vienna champion Juan Martin Del Potro advanced to the second round in Basel following his straight-sets victory over Colombia’s Alejandro Falla. The 24-year-old Argentine converted five of 10 break points en route to a 6-4, 6-1 win in 86 minutes.
Del Potro, who improved 58-14 to on the season, completed the opening-round effort with 27 of 33 first-service points captured.
He is scheduled to square off against American Brian Baker in the next round. Baker rallied to defeat veteran Radek Stepanek in the first round, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.
