Benneteau, Kubot advance at Swiss Indoors Julien Benneteau overcomes Andrey Kuznetsov in three sets on Monday in Basel. Benneteau is joined in the second round by Lukasz Kubot, who dismissed Lukas Lacko.

    Julien Benneteau d. (Q) Andrey Kuznetsov 4-6, 6-3, 6-3

Benneteau advanced to the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel by defeating Kuznetsov in one hour and 44 minutes on Monday afternoon. Kuznetsov had momentum from qualifying for the main draw and he maintained it early in the match. The 73rd-ranked Russian broke his opponent twice in the first set before closing it out on serve at 5-4.

However, the rest of the way it was mostly all Benneteau. The 30-year-old Frenchman survived three break points to stay on level terms in the second before seizing a crucial break at 4-3. Benneteau added two more breaks in the third, including at 5-3 to finish off a reeling Kuznetsov in style. Next up for the world No. 37 is either Viktor Troicki or Grigor Dimitrov.

    (Q) Lukasz Kubot d. Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-4

Kubot converted four of five break points to get past Lacko in one hour and 23 minutes on Monday. Both sets progressed in similar fashion, with one break each being exchanged en route to 5-4 Kubot leads. Lacko cracked under the pressure both times to end the two sets--and the match.

Despite the relatively close scoreline, Kubot controlled play from start to finish and won 63 total points to Lacko's 47. Poland's No. 1 player recorded four aces and one double-fault while winning 77 percent of his first-serve points. He awaits either Benoit Paire or Moscow champion Andreas Seppi.
