Thomaz Bellucci gets past Ivo Karlovic in three sets on Saturday at the Kremlin Cup. Bellucci will contest the final against Andreas Seppi, who destroyed Malek Jaziri.
(4) Thomaz Bellucci d. Ivo Karlovic 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4
Bellucci held all 16 of his service games and came back from a set deficit to beat Karlovic in two hours and 21 minutes during semifinal action at the Kremlin Cup on Saturday. A tight first set saw Bellucci save two break points and Karlovic fight off three on the way to a tiebreaker. The decisive moment came at 5-5, when Karlovic seized a mini-break with a backhand pass, and he closed it out one point later on serve.
Despite the disappointment, Bellucci came through at 5-4 in each of the last two sets. Karlovic got broken out of nowhere in the 10th game of the second and again cracked under pressure at 4-5 in the third. The 6'10'' Croat double-faulted at 30-30 and Bellucci capitalized on his first match point at 30-40. Moscow's fourth seed recorded 13 aces and one double-fault while withstanding 19 aces off the Karlovic racket.
(2) Andreas Seppi d. Malek Jaziri 6-3, 6-1
Seppi booked a spot in his fourth ATP title match of the season by cruising past Jaziri in one hour and 19 minutes on Saturday afternoon. Playing in his first career ATP semifinal, Jaziri briefly showed signs of life by recovering from a break down early in the opening set. The 112th-ranked Tunisian leveled the score at 3-3, but that proved to be his last glimmer of hope.
The donation of serve only woke Seppi up and he reeled off three straight games to take the set. Moscow's No. 2 seed ultimately won eight in a row en route to a 5-0 advantage in the second. Jaziri finally got back on the scoreboard with a hold after saving two match points, but Seppi wrapped things up on serve one game later. The 25th-ranked Italian will go up against Thomaz Bellucci in Sunday's final.
