  • Kremlin Cup up for grabs

    10/14/12 3:06 PM | Ricky Dimon
Kremlin Cup up for grabs A trio of tournaments wraps up the 250-point season this week and one of those is taking place in Moscow. A wide-open draw features Alexandr Dolgopolov, Andreas Seppi, and Viktor Troicki.

The Kremlin Cup in Moscow is a golden chance for anyone outside the Top 20 to punctuate his 2012 campaign with a rare title. Nobody in the field is anywhere close to dominant, so just about everyone--qualifiers and wild cards included--is a contender.

A slumping Alexandr Dolgopolov is the highest-ranked player in the draw at No. 20 in the world (as of Sunday), earning him the top seed. Along with Dolgopolov, other played with first-round byes are Andreas Seppi, Viktor Troicki, and Thomaz Bellucci.

If there's such a thing as a difficult part of the bracket, it is Dolgopolov's top quarter. The Ukrainian should be able to take care of his opening match, but he could face either Nikolay Davydenko or Ivo Karlovic in the quarterfinals. Davydenko begins against Alex Bogomolov in an all-Russian affair.

At the other end of the spectrum is Seppi's quarter. The Italian's competition includes Tatsuma Ito, Igor Sijsling, Roberto Bautista-Agut, and three qualifiers.

With the seeded contingent far from inspiring, watch out for unseeded threats such as Andrey Kuznetsov and Lukas Rosol. Kuznetsov has won 15 matches in a row (three straight Challenger titles) to surge well into the Top 100. Rosol, of course, stunned Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon but has done nothing since.

Come on, Sasha!

I've seen him beat Dr. Ivo but that's by no means a guarantee.

Hasn't Kolya won this tournament three times too? Sasha has his work cut out for him.
