Janko Tipsarevic and Feliciano Lopez earned spots in the Shanghai third round with wins on Wednesday.
Janko Tipsarevic (6) def. Viktor Troicki 6-2, 7-6(3)
In this battle of the Serbs, Janko Tipsarevic came out on top, largely due to his clutch play on the big points. Davis Cup teammate Vikor Troicki had eight chances to break the Tipsarevic serve, but he could not convert on a single one. For his part, Tipsarevic snagged a pair of service breaks, both in the first set.
The No. 6 seed wrapped up the match in straight sets by capturing the second-set tiebreaker, once again performing well in the big moments. Tipsarevic will battle Tommy Haas in the third round.
Feliciano Lopez def. Philipp Kohlschreiber (16) 6-3, 6-4
Spain's Feliciano Lopez is on a roll of late. The Spaniard made the semifinals in Beijing last week and looks to head into the business end of the tournament in Shanghai as well.
His latest victim was Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, who failed to convert on any of his break-point chances in the match. Lopez managed to snag one break in each set for a tidy straight-set victory.
