World No. 2 Novak Djokovic upended Spaniard Feliciano Lopez to advance to the Shanghai Masters quarterfinals on Friday.
Feliciano Lopez was outmatched in this third-round match. The Spaniard struck just three aces to Djokovic's 12 and Lopez served at a spare 48 percent for the match, a boon for the powerful return game of Djokovic's.
Lopez's serve wasn't the only thing that let him down. His forehand, which is by far his strongest shot, was patchy on Thursday. Lopez donated too many sloppy errors to the Djokovic cause, making an easy win even easier for the Serb.
Djokovic put Lopez out of his misery in an hour and eight minutes and finished with a trio of breaks.
Djokovic was seeded to play countryman Janko Tipsarevic, but the No. 6 seed was upset by Tommy Haas instead. Djokovic and Haas will meet on Friday for a spot in Saturday's semifinals.
