Tenth seed Marin Cilic is through to the third round in Shanghai after upending Slovakia's Martin Klizan in straight sets. He is joined by Spain's Fernando Verdasco, who defeated 7th seed Juan Monaco late Tuesday.

World No. 16 Marin Cilic advanced to the round of 16 by virtue of his straight-sets win over Slovakia's Martin Klizan. The 24-year-old converted four of 16 break points en route to a 7-5, 6-1 victory in 94 minutes. Cilic, who improved to 2-0 against Klizan, completed the match with 27 of 36 first-service points captured.
He will take on Fernando Verdasco for a place in the quarterfinals.

Former world No. 7 Fernando Verdasco is through to the third round after ousting 7th seed Juan Monaco late Tuesday. The 28-year-old Spaniard led 3-1 in the opening set, then followed with service breaks at 2-2 and 4-2 in the second. Verdasco ended the night with 15 winners and three of seven break chances converted.
