  Tenth seed Marin Cilic made a successful start to the Shanghai Rolex Masters, ousting veteran Lukasz Kubot in straight sets. The Croatian is through to face for a place in the round of 16.
  
  Tenth seed Marin Cilic won his first career match in Shanghai by virtue of his straight-sets victory over qualifier Lukasz Kubot. The 24-year-old, ranked world No. 16 at tournament's start, converted four of nine break points through to a 7-5, 6-3 success.
  
  Cilic completed the 93-minute, first-round match with eight aces and nine of 10 service games held.
  
  He is scheduled to take on Martin Klizan in the next round.
