Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Feliciano Lopez moved into the semifinals with wins in Beijing on Friday.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (3) def. Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-2
France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga got his first win in four tries over Mikhail Youzhny on Friday. The Frenchman overwhelmed Youzhny from the first ball until the last. Tsonga faced a pair of break points in the second set, but even that one bright spot amounted to nothing, as the Russian was unable to convert on either chance.
Tsonga finished the match with six aces and served at a rather anemic 54%, while Youzhny put in 51% of his first serves. The Russian was broken three times in the match.
Feliciano Lopez def. Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-4, 6-4
Spaniard Feliciano Lopez came back from a set deficit to defeat American Sam Querrey. For much of the match, it was Querrey who was the better player, and even after dropping the second and third sets, Querrey ended with 106 points won in the match to Lopez's 105.
It was Querrey's dismal play on break points that really hurt the American. Lopez staved off 13 of 17 break point chances but converted five of 10 on Querrey's serve.
Lopez will face on-fire Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsgona in the semifinals.
