American Sam Querrey and Feliciano Lopez of Spain earned spots in the Beijing quarterfinals with wins on Thursday.
Sam Querrey def. Andreas Seppi 6-1, 6-4
Sam Querrey made quick work of surprise Metz finalist Andreas Seppi in their second round match on Thursday. The American took just over an hour to dispatch of Seppi. Querrey did not face a single break point in the brief match, but earned himself nine chances to break the Italian's serve.
Querrey served at 55% on the day and finished with six aces. He will take on Feliciano Lopez in the quarters.
Feliciano Lopez (8) def. Yen-Hsun Lu 6-3, 7-6(7)
Spaniard Feliciano Lopez earned his spot in the quarterfinals with a good win over Tawain's Yen-Hsun Lu. The Spaniard was solid in the first set, capitalizing on one of the two break-point chances he earned.
Play got a bit sloppier in the second, however. There were four service breaks and a rash of unforced errors. The set was decided in the 'breaker. Lopez, who served better throughout the match, just pulled off the straight-set win.
