Defending champion Andy Murray made the final eight at the Japan Open, having made quick work of Slovakia's Lukas Lacko on Wednesday. The Scot is through to face Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinals.
World No. 3 Andy Murray continued a successful title defense in Tokyo, following his straight-sets ousting of Slovakia's Lukas Lacko. The 25-year-old needed just 57 minutes to secure a sport in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-2. Murray completed the second round match with six aces and four of four break chances converted.
"I began the match very well, which was nice because it was long day to get on," said Murray. "I started the match almost perfect. That was important. Once I got the break in the second set, I started to play better."
Murray is scheduled to face 7th seed Stanislas Wawrinka for a place in the semifinals. The Swiss held on to defeat France's Jeremy Chardy in the second round, 7-6(1), 6-7(6), 7-5.

When he brings his A game, Lacko is a high class outfit. Still, I wasn't surprised by the score. Stan will be a different matter, although even he's not what he was a couple of years back.
I like what I read muzz saying about not taking his eye off the ball now that he's dealt with his (justfiable) slam-winning preoccupation.
It was painfully clear that he did seem to care that much about getting beaten by outsiders in the two pre-US Open Masters events - although I was quite happy that it took a bit of the pressure of expectation off him coming into the uso.
It would just be good to see him making up for some of those lost 'lesser' tournaments in tge next few months, especially as they're hard court. That said, I'm not sure how much he needs this dubai exo with brisbane round the corner anyway. Must be big bucks involved - hey deuce, rember last time he did that one and beat rafa and fed back to back :-)) Not included in the h2h stats either although it won muzz £200K at the time.
Anyway muzz - GO FLY!

alex: :)
His thoughts on the slams and other tournaments were so interesting. Hopefully as the gorilla is off his back he can, "see clearly now."
