Nikolay Davydenko and Feliciano Lopez made successful bids in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
Nikolay Davydenko def. Sanam Singh 7-5, 6-4
Russian veteran Nikolay Davydenko dispatched Indian qualifier Sanam Singh in straight sets in his opening-round match at the Malaysian Open.
Davdyenko had a good run in Metz last week and looks to be continuing that trend this week in Kuala Lumpur.
Singh is an up-and-coming player, but Davdyenko was too good for him. The Russian earned a whopping 16 break-point opportunities in the two-set match, converting on five chances.
Davydenko will take on Denis Istomin in the second round.
Feliciano Lopez (5) def. Lukas Lacko 6-3, 7-6(3)
Lukas Lacko's streak of first-round losses continued on Wednesday, with the Slovakian recording his eighth consecutive loss, dating back to the London Olympics.
Lopez didn't have much difficulty getting past Lacko. The Spaniard kicked in five aces in the straight-set victory and converted on a trio of break points.
