• Tipsarevic leads the way at Bangkok Open

Tipsarevic leads the way at Bangkok Open Janko Tipsarevic won the Kuala Lumpur event this time last year, but now he is trying his hand in Bangkok. He is joined in a strong 250-point field by Richard Gasquet, Milos Raonic, and Gilles Simon.

The Bangkok Open helps kick off this year's Asian swing and a strong field is on board. It includes No. 1 seed Janko Tipsarevic, who will be making his first appearance at the event (he captured the Kuala Lumpur title this week last year).

Tipsarevic is in the midst of his best career season and he has positioned himself for another trip to the World Tour Finals. The ninth-ranked Serb reached the Toronto Masters semifinals this summer and he is coming off a quarterfinal showing at the U.S. Open.

Joining Tipsarevic with opening-round byes in Bangkok are Richard Gasquet, Milos Raonic, and Gilles Simon. If the seeds hold to form into Saturday (not likely given the rest of the entry list's quality), semifinal matchups would feature Tipsarevic vs. Simon and Gasquet vs. Raonic. A Tipsarevic-Raonic final would be a rematch of the Chennai championship that kicked off this season, which Raonic won 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 7-6(4).

Tipsarevic could begin against Robin Haase, Gasquet likely awaits Grigor Dimitrov, and Raonic may face a huge-serving affair with Ivo Karlovic right off the bat. Simon should have an easier time reaching the quarters, but at that point he could run into Viktor Troicki or Gael Monfils.

The draw's top section is arguably the toughest. In addition to Tipsarevic and Haase, it also includes fifth-seeded Fernando Verdasco. Donald Young, who went on a legendary losing streak from February until mid-August, opens against Yen-Hsun Lu before a potential encounter with Verdasco. Young finished runner-up to Andy Murray last season in Bangkok.
