(1) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga d. Nikolay Davydenko 6-0, 3-6, 6-4
Tsonga had trouble putting this match away, but he managed to finish off Davydenko in one hour and 47 minutes during semifinal action at the Moselle Open on Saturday evening. This one had appeared to be routine for Tsonga, who did not lose a single game in the opening set. But Davydenko woke up in the second and saved all thee of the break points he faced.
A break midway through the set and another one at 5-3 allowed the 31-year-old Russian to completely steal the momentum. Nonetheless, he had no chance against Tsonga's serve in set three. Tsonga dropped a mere four points in his last five service games. Metz's No. 1 seed and defending champion broke in a long game at 4-4 then served things out at love. Tsonga will battle Andreas Seppi for the title on Sunday.
(5) Andreas Seppi d. (7) Gael Monfils 3-6, 6-1, 6-4
Monfils' first tournament back from a knee injury came to an end at Seppi's hands on Saturday. It started off well enough for the crowd favorite, who lost only five points in his first five service games. One break was easily enough to allow Monfils to serve out the opener at 5-3. Seppi, though, won all 13 of his first-serve points in set two as he forced a decider without any trouble.
A high-quality third set saw Seppi just barely get the upper hand. The 28th-ranked Italian broke at 2-2 and fought off all three of his opponent's break opportunities to maintain an advantage. A tired-looking Monfils very nearly broke back in the final game of the match, but Seppi won several entertaining rallies to close it out. The No. 5 seed recorded five aces and two double-faults while winning 67 percent of his second-serve return points.
