Top seed Mikhail Youzhny is through to the final eight at the St. Petersburg Open, having ousted American Rajeev Ram in straight sets. The former champion moves on to face 7th seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez for a place in the semifinal.
Top seed Mikhail Youzhny advanced to the last eight Thursday night after upending American Rajeev Ram in straight sets. The 30-year-old veteran held nine of nine service games through to a 6-1, 6-4 victory in just 67 minutes.
Youzhny, into his first quarterfinal since Wimbledon, completed the winning effort with four aces and 85% of his first-service points captured. Ram ended the match just two of 12 on the second serve.
Youzhny is scheduled to meet 7th seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the next round.
