Former champion Mikhail Youzhny is through to the round of 16 at the St. Petersburg Open, having ousted Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in straight sets. The veteran will take on American Rajeev Ram for place in the quarterfinals.
World No. 29 Mikhail Youzhny made a strong start to his St. Petersburg Open campaign, upending Canadian Vasek Pospisil in straight sets. The 30-year-old, who captured the title in 2004, secured his opener in 81 minutes, 7-6(4), 6-1.
Youzhny completed the winning effort with 24 of 32 first-service points secured and three of five break points converted.
He is scheduled to face American Rajeev Ram in the next round. Ram began the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Germany’s Matthias Bachinger.
