Only a few months after parting company with Roger Federer, sporting mega-agency IMG is reportedly stalking a contract with Novak Djokovic.
The ATP world No. 2, who dominated the 2011 season but has gone off the boil in 2012, has been working with CAA sports, but is no longer with the company that has represented him for the past four years.
Djokovic is considered the third most elite player in the tennis marketing world, behind all-star Federer and charismatic Rafael Nadal. He signed a clothing contract earlier this season with Japan's Uniqlo after Italy's Sergio Tacchini year had to cut him loose due to the expense of making his fast-accumulating contracted bonus payments.
The Serb is also a lead endorser for Head racquets along with Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova.
The New York Post said that Djokovic has been consulting "informally" with American billionaire venture capitalist Ron Burkle.
Federer left IMG in the spring when his longtime agent Tony Godsick turned in his resignation. Since then, management of the Swiss player's estimated $40-50 million in annual endorsements has been handled by Godsick, who is now listed as working with RF Management.

"off the boil" ??????????????
RickyDimon , 9/19/12 4:56 PM
I would agree with 'off the boil' for Djokovic. I think he's just simmering on a low heat at the moment.
nadline , 9/19/12 5:29 PM
off the boil means you've completely lost your game
Djokovic is having a great year, just not as good as last year
RickyDimon , 9/19/12 5:38 PM
Yes, number one in race points, the best showing among all at GS, most finals of masters tournaments... I mean, yeah, his year is really a bad one. Someone like Ferrer would love to have career achievements equaling only this one Nole's year.
danica , 9/19/12 8:49 PM
More likely, it's Lindt-all who is off the boil.

Ricky Dimon is the only one on here that makes any sense at all.
pennster , 9/19/12 11:01 PM
Really doubt IMG would sign djokovic.
willmw101 , 9/20/12 12:40 AM
Roger always assumes he is worth more than what IMG can get for him. He and Mirka had left IMG in 2005 or 6. Forstmann after taking over IMG had got him back. Rigging schedules and draws clearly started after that.
Now that he has powerful sponsors who can arm twist ATP and Forstmann is no more, Roger must have decided to separate with Godsick's help.
Anyway, I hope Djokovic gets a good deal in sponsorships with or without IMG. He deserves it.
holdserve , 9/20/12 4:09 AM
What exactly can IMG offer Novak anyhow?
pennster , 9/20/12 5:46 AM
IMG could offer djokovic a LOT in regard to his global image. What djokovic could offer to IMG is the real question. Djokovic isn't particularly well known outside of eastern Europe when compared to the far superior PR machines that are Rafa and Roger.
willmw101 , 9/20/12 6:13 PM
IMG is reportedly stalking a contract with Novak Djokovic.
----
Since IMG is stalking Novak, they think he has something to offer.
pennster , 9/20/12 6:35 PM
"stalking" according to Johan Lindahl. That means the reality could be anything from Djokovic once bumped into an IMG agent in the street all the way to Djokovic having already signed for IMG. Nothing Johan Lindahl writes can ever be used to prove anything in any discussion. Hope thats conclusive enough for you LOL.
willmw101 , 9/20/12 6:51 PM
"Djokovic isn't particularly well known outside of eastern Europe"
Sorry my language, but that's a BS.
#TheBestAthleteOfTheYear :))))
danica , 9/20/12 7:17 PM
Danica, taking only a certain part of the sentence I wrote and responding to it is pointless. Idiot. The whole sentence, which is absolutely true for the record, is as follows.
"Djokovic isn't particularly well known outside of eastern Europe when compared to the far superior PR machines that are Rafa and Roger.
READ first, then get provoked into posting a pointless rebuke. It makes your content that much more useful, if still wrong.
willmw101 , 9/20/12 7:26 PM
Then, your sentence should have sounded something like this:
"Djokovic isn't particularly well known when compared to the far superior PR machines that are Rafa and Roger".
Period.
Besides, how do you know he is well known, or more loved, in eastern Europe than Rafa of Roger? Putting eastern Europe in that sentence was pointless.
danica , 9/20/12 8:08 PM
Yeah Danica, he adds "Eastern Europe" in a sentence as easily as Deuce adds the words. Maybe they are one and the same or maybe they are both xenophobes.
pennster , 9/20/12 11:17 PM
Everything's relative, Ricky.
SI wants to dub Novak 2012 Player of the Year because he's made 3 Grand Slam finals and won 1, when that was what Rafa did last year and he was practically dubbed the Worst Player of the Year for doing the exact same thing.
mara002 , 9/21/12 5:56 AM
pennster, 9/20/12 11:17 PM: You are beginning to sound xenophobic yourself with your habit of bandying this word around as an insulting epithet at every possible opportunity.
It seems to have escaped your notice that tennis is a global sport. Apart from DC and the Olympics when they are representing their country, they play for individual glory and are defined by their nationality. To refer to a player's nationality, in whatever context, does not constitute xenophobia.
ed251137 , 9/21/12 12:19 PM
@mara002, 5:56am
Look at it this way: according to SI, Rafa's worst is Novak's best. Complement for Rafa, No?
rafaisthebest , 9/21/12 3:10 PM
How inane! Djoker's best was clearly last year. They're just saying that nobody has had a stellar year in 2012 that's why Djoker's still in the running.
chr18 , 9/21/12 6:37 PM
RITB,
that statement would definitely be a totally slanted view if true.
Novak does have the best year in race points. In terms of slams and masters tournies, he's having the best 2012. However, AndyM winning USO and OG probably has a bit more value. Well, we'll see what happens by the end of the year. Surely, Nole, Andy and Roger are in the running. Too bad Rafa missed a huge chunk of the season because he was the one to beat in the first part of 2012.
danica , 9/21/12 7:06 PM
pennster and danica, neither of you make any sense so the discussion is over.
willmw101 , 9/21/12 8:01 PM
Discussion? What discussion? If I really wanted to discuss anything here at length, you'd notice. As it is, I like to come here and exchange a post or two with other tennis fans. I don't care for verbal fights and/or proving anything to anyone. I pretty much say what I have and leave it at that.
danica , 9/21/12 8:52 PM
"I don't care for verbal fights and/or proving anything to anyone"
This clearly isn't true considering how incorrectly pedantic you were being earlier.

danica , 9/21/12 10:57 PM

willmw101 , 9/22/12 12:23 AM
The two most popular tennis athletes world over are Fed and Nadal. Even Roddick's a lot more popular in Asia than Djokovic and Murray. Asians love Americans.
I was assigned to India from December 2011 to May 2012, and got to interact with the locals. For them, cricket is like air, food and sleep. Fed's the most popular tennis player, but Leander Paes and the other Indians do get some attention. Nadal is popular coz the Sampras fans don't like Fed, and Djokovic is given some attention coz the Fed fans don't want Nadal to beat Fed's GS records. Murray is unheard of.
From the above, I doubt IMG would want djoker coz he's not popular and Asia has a huge market, but if the athlete is not marketable I doubt IMG will even bother. The Japanese clothing company djoker endorses cannot outsell Nike coz Nadal and Fed, plus Serena are their big stars. I don't know for sure, but I suppose Tacchini had a similar problem with djoker not producing enough sales. I may be wrong though.
scoretracker , 9/22/12 1:11 AM
In fact, Tacchini never counted on Nole's phenomenal success last year and couldn't keep up with the promised bonuses. Also, they failed in terms of not following the demand for Nole outfits which was obviously overwhelming for them. They had his posters in their stores, but if you really wanted to buy his shirt, it was next to impossible. They did nothing to promote his line in the States.
danica , 9/22/12 1:22 AM
Can nobody say why Nole's coaching staff is stil wearing Tacchini???
#BridesmaidDresses
Conspirator , 9/22/12 1:36 AM
@Danica, to be candid, I don't like Tacchini clothes, and djoker's body didn't help. djoker looked much better in Adidas than Murray does, but the Uniqlo and tacchini are thumbs down, although uniqlo looks a lot like Adidas. Djokovic has a difficult type body for clothes to look nice. I don't know if his shorts, leg width are his idea or the manufacturers, but they do make his skinny legs more obvious; a few more inches across might be better?
I think of all the men, (my GF says so) Berdych looks perefect in his outfits. Fed's and Nadal's shorts have the perfect fit, length and width across. To me, it appears that Fed's outfits have got a lot of feminine input, and are nicely tailored to hide his physique flaws, which is nice to look at. Nadal's outfits enhance his already cut body, but some of the bright pink stuff, makes me cringe. I guess women love pink, but I read some place that Nadal also loves pink and it's absolutely his choice. don't wanna comment on Murray coz my friend made that mistake and he's paid a big price.
scoretracker , 9/22/12 3:26 AM
Rafa does like pink. It's just our good luck he looks good in it.
He likes bright colors because they remind him of Mallorca.
"Can nobody say why Nole's coaching staff is stil wearing Tacchini???
#BridesmaidDresses"
*tears of laughter*
mara002 , 9/22/12 4:36 AM
Not all men dislike pink. It's perfectly OK here in my country for men loving pink, different shades of pink. The younger men here are more modern and funky and they'll try all colors, as long as they look nice in them. Rafa looks good in all sorts of bright color, probably because he's youthful and full of energy.
Djoko looks good in his latest tennis gear, and I believe he's popular enough to help sell that brand; just like he does for Tacchini, the difference is, I think Uniqlo is more prepared than Tacchini to hand out big bonuses to Nole when the sales soar due to Nole's endorsement.
luckystar , 9/22/12 4:57 AM
Are we really discuss Nole's marketing appeal compared to Feds or Rafa's? Anyone who thinks Nole is as marketable or more so, than those two legends know almost nothing of marketing/advertising. Rafa & Fed are PR machines, built, refined, and honed, due to YEARS of excellence on a global scale. Nole had a GREAT 2011, but unless you're a tennis fan, those outside the sport will not recall his great year... Unless he has 2, 3, 4 more great consistent years, just as Rafa & Roger have had.
I am not doubting his potential to be as marketable as them, but right now, don't fool yourselves into thinking he is worth that much.
On the topic of Tacchini... It's terrible. I'm so glad he has gone with UNIQLO, whom is the fastest fast-fashion retailer in the world right now, next to ZARA. It may not be the next Nike, but it's certainly a powerful brand that's expanding x1000 faster than one would expect.
aegis , 9/22/12 5:18 AM
I swear, Fognini or Safin could sell anything to me :))
I loved Rafa look a few years ago when his hair was longer, his shorts was longer and his sleeves were shorter :)). I think Roger also looks nice on court - Nike came up with some really good color combinations (although I disliked the white/gold almost rococo style Wimbledon outfits). Nole, to me, looks the best in black. The Addidas black/green combo of the few years back, was outrageous.
But, in the end, it doesn't really matter what the stuff they are selling looks like. Fans will buy anything. It's THEM, their persona , their image, that sells things be it tennis equipment, razor blades, watches, apples...
danica , 9/22/12 5:26 AM
A young Rafa certainly looks good in that 'pirate' outfit. Now that he's 26, I think the normal look with sleeves looks better on him. He's still looking very good in 'sleeve' look, as long as they give him collarless t/shirts. Collarless ones still look youthful, and they can play around with the designs and colors and the fittings to make them look interesting. I always like Rafa's Wimbledon outfits, and I like his outfits during this year's clay season especially.
luckystar , 9/22/12 5:56 AM
Yes, to an extent, some fans will buy anything, but those fans who value their bucks will be more selective. Also, some fans most probably would buy a shirt and put it away if it's not to their liking just to say they have a Fed/Nadal/Djokovic type tennis shirt.
scoretracker , 9/22/12 7:44 AM
lol: Nobody would guess there are two tournaments being played. Not a dicky bird from anybody. Instead a long discussion on the fashion sense, or otherwise, of the top players.
btw: Scoretracker's GF is right. Berdy always looks immaculate in his gear. He and Roger have similar physiques and both wear clothes well and look bandbox fresh even after a long tough match. Unlike Nalby and Andy who look as if they've already played five sets in their clothes when they are warming up!
ed251137 , 9/22/12 10:03 AM
Berdych certainly looks better than Fed in his Nike outfits. He's always neat and he has such good posture and broad shoulders that he can wear his clothes really well. I like his green checkered outfit during 2010 Miami. It might look 'elderly' on an older man but on him it just looked classic and elegant. He's the second on my list, after Rafa, in terms of looking good in their tennis gears. The two of them make the rest of the field look ordinary in their gears.
luckystar , 9/22/12 10:40 AM
Danica @ 5:26 AM: Were you referring to Nole's 2008 USO gear in poisonous snake green and black? Cant believe you liked him in that - I thought it was a hideous colour combination :-(
But your right, on balance, black works for him: makes him look very 'dont mess with me mate'.
ed251137 , 9/22/12 3:25 PM
Agreed with Nole looking great in black. Seems to really compliment his frame and natural features. Can't say he looks as good in any other colour. Just as Rafa for the most part, seems to be the only player on tour to be able to pull off bright colours that Nike offers.
aegis , 9/22/12 7:51 PM
Ed251137,
yes, the very poisonous green :)). Sorry for using the wrong word obviously, I thought "outrageous" meant something like "over the top bad" ;). I really hated that combination, that was supposed to be the meaning of my post.
danica , 9/22/12 10:27 PM
Danica. No need to apologise. It was a simple case of 'lost in translation'. My bad. 'Outrageous' is sometimes used colloquially to imply something is 'outrageously good' which is what I thought you were saying. But you are absolutely correct - it normally means 'shockingly bad'. I'm relieved to know you found it obnoxious - I was beginning to have doubts your fashion sense ;-)
ed251137 , 9/22/12 11:02 PM

When have any on you spoken on a topic with some sensible comments other than Nadal's threads. On the other threads, especially Fed's threads, you mess it up with a bunch of the ususal nonsensical jargon ridiculing Fed and calling his fans names.
I hope Murray can defend the USO title deuce is happily rejoicing over, and has accelerated her mouth into a motor-driven one. By herself, deuce is a big boo-hoo cry-baby, coming over here to complain about some miserable fight she had on another site. How laughable. We'll see next September what's going to happen when Murray has to defend the USO. some of you women are old enough to be my MOM. geez. Glad to kow my mom's a very mature-minded woman who doesn't swoon over 25 y/o men. Sick.
It's obvious you lot feel like the chosen people coz you can write whatever drivel you want and sanction others who stay on topic. You start picking on the posters with off-topic drivel, and when they answer they get told they are in the wrong and off-topic. How well you've got things sewn up, coz you feel you're all privileged to do whatever you want, and be smug in the process.
The other loser says she can write whatever she wants and no one can tell her what to do, except she enjoys stipulating to others what they cannot say. How very secure she feels that she's got this site locked up in her grasp, as the self-appointed moderator, WITH HER PERSONAL CHAT ROOM, that she can say what she wants. I pity you all.

It is well known to the world about the time taken by Nadal/Djokovic between serves. In the epic final Nadal, on an average, took around 30 seconds (maximum went to around 50 seconds)
Wimbledon 2010: Against Philipp Petzschner, he called his trainer numerous times on the court. Nadal won, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3. Petzschner said he did not notice a difference in Nadal?s movements before and after the timeouts.
Wimbledon 2011: Nadal calls for a? timeout at 6-6 in the first set and goes on to win the match against Del Potro.

"Something similar happened to the smug Roger Federer earlier this year, but his reasons were a little bit different. During a quarterfinal match during this year?s Australian Open Federer took a bathroom break because he said that the sun was getting in his eyes and it was affecting his game. He simply wanted to wait a few minutes until the sun moved out of his line of sight and he could then play the game better. Well the strategy seemed to work because he went on to win the match even though he was docked a game for the break.
The problem with this incident and others is that a lot of players have over the years, found or tried to find ways to delay the game slightly to throw off the rhythm of their opponents to give them an edge. On court treatment for leg cramps was banned as were bathroom breaks whenever a player wanted to go. These rules caused their own problems but it went some way to stop delays in matches."

Well we know that boretracker is doing its level best to wreck this site. Filled with pompous piety and delusions of being a victim.
Oh and by the way, who is it who has all the time in the world to comment on this site all day long? Someone doesn't have a job or anything better to do!
