World No. 4 Andy Murray overcame a shaky start to defeat world No. 13 Marin Cilic in Wednesday’s quarterfinal. The Scot is through to face either world No. 1 Roger Federer or world No. 7 Tomas Berdych for a place in the final.
Third seed Andy Murray fought his way out of trouble, having trailed by a set and 5-1 against Croatia’s Marin Cilic. The 25-year-old converted eight of 19 break points en route to a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-2 victory in three hours.
After losing the opening set, Murray fell behind 5-1 in the second. Cilic twice served for a two-sets-to-love lead but was unable to close. Murray again rallied, digging out of a 4-2 deficit to win the second-set tie-break.
A settled Scot broke to 5-2 in the third set and 5-0 in the fourth. Double match point came in short order for the third seed, who ended the match with a backhand winner. He completed the quarterfinal with 11 aces and 39 winners.
He is scheduled to take on either top seed Roger Federer or sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the semifinals.
