After a dismal first set, Novak Djokovic had Stanislas Wawrinka on the ropes before the Swiss retired.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic and Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka kicked off their round of 16 match, which was postponed from Tuesday due to rain, with a series of sloppy service games.
The two men took turns converting break points. Each secured a pair of breaks with the first set on serve when Wawrinka was broken for a third time at 5-4 to hand Djokovic the set.
The wind went out of Wawrinka's sails after he lost the first set. Djokovic took the momentum and ran with it, securing the second set in 31 minutes to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Wawrinka went down an early break in the third as well and at 1-2, called the trainer to the court, before citing an injury and withdrawing from the match.
Djokovic will take on Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarterfinals.

Damn you Wawrinka. Had Djoker to win 3-0 and your retirement voided the bet!
