    Murray overcomes slow start World No. 4 Andy Murray is through to the second round after upending Russia's Alex Bogomolov in straight sets. The Scot is joined in round two by 17th seed Kei Nishikori, who won his opener in straights early Monday.

    Third seed Andy Murray made a successful start to the US Open, having dismissed Russian Alex Bogomolov in straight sets. The 25-year-old tallied 46 winners through to a 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 win in two hours and 15 minutes. Murray ended the match with nine of 19 break points converted.

    He is scheduled to meet either Ivan Dodig or Hiroki Moriya in the next round.

    (17) Kei Nishikori def. Guido Andreozzi 6-1, 6-2, 6-4

    Seventeenth seed Kei Nishikori advanced to the second round after beating Argentina's Guido Andreozzi early Monday. The 22-year-old converted five of 10 break points en route to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 victory in an hour and 40 minutes. Nishikori completed the opening-round effort with 20 winners and 37 of 44 first-service points captured.

    He will take on either Tim Smyczek or Bobby Reynolds in the second round.
