• Murray stunned by lucky loser Chardy

    8/16/12 9:52 PM | Cheryl Murray
Murray stunned by lucky loser Chardy Andy Murray was knocked out of the Cincinnati Masters by lucky loser Jeremy Chardy, who now reaches his first Cincinnati quarterfinal.

It was shaky play for both players for much of this third-round match, with Jeremy Chardy of France finally coming through 6-4, 6-4. Andy Murray, Wimbledon finalist and Olympic gold medalist, was far off his form that allowed so much success during the grass court season.

The Scot served at 54% for the match and was broken a shocking four times in the one-hour and thirty-eight minute match. The first set wasn't as messy as the second, with the single break coming for the Frenchman at 3-3 on a shanked forehand from Murray.

The second set started off with five consecutive service breaks, with each man struggling to keep the ball in the court. It wasn't until 3-2 that Chardy finally managed to hold, but not until Murray found his way to deuce after sitting at a 40-15 deficit. Murray held for the rest of the set, but he was already down a break and never recovered it.

Chardy moves into the quarterfinals where he will take on world No. 9 Juan Martin Del Potro.
