Ferrer returns to action in Cincinnati World No. 5 David Ferrer makes his return to competition as the ATP World Tour continues the North American hard-court season at the Masters 1000 Cincinnati. With the absence of compatriot Rafael Nadal, the veteran enters the draw seeded fourth.

David Ferrer is back on court after losing a round of 16 match to Japan’s Kei Nishikori at the Olympic Games. The 30-year-old veteran has compiled a 53-10 season record, aided by championship winning runs at five events.

Ferrer will be making his ninth appearance at the Masters 1000 Cincinnati, where he finished among the final eight in 2006 and 2007.

The World No. 5 headlines a competitive quarter of the draw that hosts (5) Tomas Berdych, (11) Gilles Simon and (14) Kei Nishikori.

Other players in the section include Stanislas Wawrinka, Kevin Anderson, Milos Raonic, Marcel Granollers, Lukasz Kubot, Marcos Baghdatis, wildcard James Blake and Rogers Cup finalist Richard Gasquet.

Ferrer is scheduled to commence his campaign after receiving a first-round bye.
