Djokovic holds off Haas, Tipsarevic next Defending champion Novak Djokovic is through to the final four after surviving an extended match with veteran Tommy Haas on Friday night. The top seed will take on countryman Janko Tipsarevic for a spot in the championship final.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic advanced to the Rogers Cup semifinal on Friday, having held on to upend Germany's Tommy Haas in three sets. The 25-year-old held 13 of 14 service games en route to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 33 minutes.

With the match level at a set apiece, Djokovic regrouped to lead 3-1 in the final set. After missing two match points, the top seed steadied to close the contest on his third. Djokovic ended the night with 20 winners and 74% of his first-service points captured.

The defending champion is scheduled to face compatriot Janko Tipsarevic in the semifinals. The 5th seed recorded back-to-back wins over 10th seed Marin Cilic and Marcel Granollers on Friday.

Great effort both guys!!! But they were tired. You could really see it in Nole's eyes. Those misses at mach points were the result of tiredness.

Get well Nole and win it tomorrow ;)

deuce , 8/11/12 8:33 AM

Anybody, Pleeeese, but federer for No. 1. all the begging in the world won't make Murray No. 1 though.

hehe...scoretrasher in full glory.... :)
deuce... Novak is defending champ... so if he wins... no new points. So LOAT will be still first...

Congrats to Nole for reaching the final, at least he has defended 600 of his 1000 points, good for him.

Well done to Gasquet too, for reaching his first, or is it second, Masters final! (did Gasquet reach a clay Masters final back in 2005?).

Luckystar,
If I hear them correctly, the commies have said yesterday that Gasquet had already played the finals of Rogers Cup in 2006.

danica , 8/12/12 6:09 AM

^^^Ok noted. Thanks.

Nole played really well against Tipsy. He really looked in great touch. Looks like he is ready to pedal up his USO title defence preparations. I would love to see him back in his 2011 touch.

I thot Gasquet also reached the final and lost to Fed at Hamburg 2005. I think that was his first Masters final, and he as an 18 yo, had beaten Fed in the QF of MC in the same year.
