Last year's finalist Mardy Fish is through to the quarterfinals after rallying to oust 7th seed Juan Monaco. The veteran American will take on 14th seed Richard Gasquet for a place among the final four at the Masters 1000 Canada.
Eleventh seed Mardy Fish advanced to the last eight by virtue of his three-set ousting of 7th seed Juan Monaco. The 30-year-old American converted three of seven break points en route to a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in two hours and 16 minutes.
After splitting the first two sets, Fish broke at 4-4 in the decider. Monaco had four chances to level the match but was unable to break. Fish held match point at 5-4, then closed with aggressive baseline play.
He completed the day with five aces and 35 of 42 first-service points captured.
Fish is slated to meet 14th seed Richard Gasquet in Friday'ss quarterfinals. The Frenchman dismissed fourth seed Tomas Berdych in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-2.
