  • Raonic off to a winning start in Toronto

    8/8/12 3:51 AM | Cheryl Murray
Raonic off to a winning start in Toronto Milos Raonic is off to strong start at his home tournament with a win on Tuesday over Serbia's Viktor Troicki.

Milos Raonic, who just snagged a No. 16 seed for the Rogers Cup and with it a first-round bye, began his Canadian Open against Viktor Troicki with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

The Canadian sailed through his service games; he didn't face a single break point in the match. Raonic's ace count was low by his standards; he hit just seven for the match, but his big first serve made Troicki's return completely ineffective.

Troicki's own service games were somewhat weak. Raonic isn't a world-class returner, but he was able to gain enough traction on the Serb's serve to get a break of serve in each set.

Raonic awaits the winner of Flavio Cipolla and Andy Murray in the third round.
