• Hometown favorite Raonic kicks off Toronto bid

    8/7/12 3:33 AM | Cheryl Murray
Hometown favorite Raonic kicks off Toronto bid Canada's top tennis player Milos Raonic will begin his 2012 Canadian Open in the second round against Viktor Troicki.

This could be a tricky first match for Milos Raonic. The Canadian hasn't played a competitive match on hard courts since the Miami Masters back in March. He just nabbed a first round bye this week as the No. 16 seed, while Troicki has a match under his belt with his first-round defeat of Alex Bogomolov Jr.

Raonic had a second-round loss at the Olympics, but the loss was part of the 25-23 epic third set where he was just edged by France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Troicki's Wimbledon was even more lackluster than that of Raonic. The Serb, who is currently ranked 33rd in the world, went out in straight sets to Nicolas Almagro but had a good-fourth round showing at the All-England Club during the Olympics.

Raonic has one of the biggest first serves in all of tennis, a shot that should see him through his first ever match against Troicki.

    Prediction – Raonic in 3.
