Fish takes care of Berankis in Washington, D.C. Mardy Fish makes quick work of Ricardas Berankis in straight sets on Thursday in Washington, D.C. Fish is through to a quarterfinal clash against Xavier Malisse.

Mardy Fish clobbered Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 6-1 in the second round of the Citi Open on Thursday evening. Fish fired 10 aces and saved both of the break points he faced to advance in exactly one hour.

Berankis at least made it competitive in the first set. The 103rd-ranked Lithuanian, a finalist last week in Los Angeles, dropped serve once and failed to capitalize on either one of his two break chances. Fish wrapped up the set with a clutch hold at 5-3.

It was all Fish the rest of the way, as Washington’s No. 1 seed surrendered only five points in three service games and converted all three of his break-point opportunities. Fish’s fourth break of the day finished off the proceedings in style.

Berankis recorded four aces and double-faulted six times while serving at just 47 percent. Fish, meanwhile, moves on to a quarterfinal showdown against Xavier Malisse.
