Haas cruises into Washington quarterfinals Tommy Haas gets past Leonardo Mayer in straight sets on Wednesday in Washington. Haas is through to an all-German quarterfinal against Tobias Kamke.

Tommy Haas maintained his fine form with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Leonardo Mayer in the second round of the Citi Open on Wednesday. Haas fired eight aces and held 10 of 11 service games as he prevailed in one hour and 39 minutes.

Mayer made it competitive the entire way, but the tail end of each set proved to be his undoing. Haas dominated on serve without facing a break point en route to a 5-4 lead in the opener. The 34-year-old German put the pressure on in the 10th game and converted his third break chance of the day to take the set.

One break apiece was exchanged before Mayer successfully served to stay in the match at 4-5. After another Haas hold, though, the underdog Argentine was again asked the tough questions. This time he could not deliver, and Haas' third break of the match ended it in style.

Mayer wrapped up his effort with four aces and no double-faults while serving at 72 percent. Haas will take on countryman Tobias Kamke in Thursday's quarterfinals.
