Novak Djokovic will return for a second straight appearance at the Hopman Cup which starts the 2013 tennis season in early January, teaming up with his countrywoman and fellow former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic.
Organizers at the eight-nation mixed team event in Perth, Western Australia, have also managed to sign the next generation of Aussie tennis by bringing Bernard Tomic into the field
The upcoming edition will be the first to be staged at a new entertainment center after more than two decades at the Burswood dome.
"Novak loves this event - he's coming back for the third time in the past five years - and he's very excited about the new venue and getting the best possible preparation for the Australian Open," said new tournament director Steve Ayles said.
"I love the competition there; I love the atmosphere," Djokovic said in a statement. "You have lots of great players taking part in the tournament, It's great preparation for the first Grand Slam of the year.
"I've reached the finals on two previous occasions so I sincerely hope that now this time, with Ana, we can actually win a trophy."
Tomic, ranked 49th and a first-round Olympic loser, will be continuing an Australian tradition by playing in the home event, with his female partner yet to be chosen. "I can't wait to play against the top players in the world and get guaranteed three matches of a high standard...something great before the Australian Open.
"The opportunity to play mixed doubles is something new for me.... I can't wait to get on the court and help Australia win."
