Djokovic halts Hewitt, into Olympics quarterfinals Novak Djokovic overcomes Lleyton Hewitt in three sets on Wednesday in London. Djokovic will go up against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a spot in the semifinals.

Lleyton Hewitt showed he still has plenty left in the tank at 31 years old, but he did not have quite enough to upset Novak Djokovic in the London Olympics on Wednesday. Djokovic recovered from a set deficit to prevail 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in one hour and 56 minutes during third-round action.

One break midway through the first set allowed Hewitt to seize a surprising early lead. Although the Aussie doesn't serve huge, he made only two unforced errors in the opener and gave his opponent no real chance to get back on serve.

A much more dramatic second saw Djokovic earn his first break of the day at 4-3. Just like that, however, Hewitt returned the favor and kept his hopes alive with a break and hold. But the underdog cracked at 5-6, though it was mostly due to rock-solid baseline play from Djokovic. The Serb's second break forced a third set in style.

From there it was all Djokovic, who pocketed two quick breaks in the decider and never looked back. The world No. 2 closed out the proceedings with a final routine hold at 5-1. He finished with 16 aces and three double-faults while setting up a quarterfinal showdown against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

"I just needed to step in a bit," Djokovic said of his slow start. "That's what I did. I changed the momentum in the middle of the second set when I made a break. Yes, he made a re-break, but I felt that I got back into the match."
