Richard Gasquet and Marcos Baghdatis were victims of London rain on Sunday, with their matches postponed until Monday at the All-England Club.
Richard Gasquet (16) vs. Robin Haase
This is not an easy opening round for Frenchman Richard Gasquet. The No. 16 seed is a good grass courter in his own right, with a round of 16 result at this year's Wimbledon. But Robin Haase is a dangerous player on the lawns. The Dutchman has a monster first serve, and though he lost in the first round at Wimbledon this year, he took world No. 9 Juan Martin Del Potro to four sets.
Gasquet has a smooth backhand and variety in his game, but if Haase has a great serving day, the Frenchman could be in trouble.
Prediction – Gasquet in 3.
Marcos Baghdatis vs. Go Soeda
Cyprus flag-bearer Marcos Baghdatis will take on world No. 47 Go Soeda in the last of the first round matches. Baghdatis sits just above Soeda at world No. 44, but he has had a better year on grass than the Japanese man.
Soeda hasn't won more than a single match on the lawns in 2012, with his best results coming on hard courts. Baghdatis fared better at Wimbledon than his opponent. The Cypriot put in a third round showing, losing in four sets to eventual finalist Andy Murray.
Prediction – Baghdatis in straight sets.
