Ferrer holds off Pospisil to advance at Olympics After a rain delay, David Ferrer defeated Canada's Vasek Pospisil in straight sets to move into the second round at the All-England Club.

Spain's top medal contender David Ferrer survived a rain-spattered Sunday in London to defeat Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4.

The Spaniard played conservative tennis, allowing Pospisil to litter the stat sheet. The Canadian donated 26 unforced errors to the Ferrer cause. He also racked up 18 winners, but Ferrer played much cleaner tennis, hitting 13 winners and committing eight unforced errors.

Pospisil was able to make a few inroads on the Ferrer serve. He secured a break of serve in each set, but Ferrer's strength is his return game and the Spaniard snagged four service breaks from the Canadian to secure the straight-set win.

Ferrer awaits the winner of Vishnu Vardhan of India and Slovenia's Blaz Kavcic.
